We’re excited to share that Sawpod is planning a trip to Sumatra this August! We’ll be working with the teams at the Sumatran Orangutan Society and TaHuKah (Tangguh Hutan Khatulistiwa Foundation) – a local NGO that’s doing incredible work reconnecting forest habitats for Sumatran orangutans and other wildlife.

Our crew – Tony Darbyshire from the UK, Geoff Pugsley from Canada and Marcus Nicholson from Australia – will be heading over to Indonesia to help train the TaHuKah team in tree climbing.

Why? Because they’ll be building canopy bridges – special rope pathways up in the trees that let animals move around safely in forests that have been broken up by roads. Orangutans are totally tree-dwellers – they live their whole lives up there – so giving them a way to cross safely without coming down to the ground is a game-changer.

Right now, the TaHuKah team doesn’t have any climbing gear, and they’ve had to rely on others to do this kind of work. With our help, they’ll be able to do it themselves!

Each of our guys is bringing a spare set of climbing equipment to donate, so once the training’s done, the team will have enough gear for three people to rotate through climbing jobs – setting up bridges and checking canopy camera traps.
